Cofiroute USA was involved in the early planning for the project with the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) for the purpose of increasing capacities and reducing congestion for an existing 14-mile stretch of SR-91 and a 6-mile stretch along Interstate 15. At an estimated $1.3 billion dollars, this investment will create approximately 16,000 jobs over a period of 10 years.

The 91 Corridor Improvement Project

Cofiroute USA was involved in the early planning for the 91 Corridor Improvement Project with the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC). The purpose of this project was to increase capacities and reduce congestion for an existing 14-mile stretch of SR-91 and a 6-mile stretch along Interstate 15. At an estimated $1.3 billion, this investment will create approximately 16,000 jobs over the period of10 years. Not only will the project create jobs, but it will also strengthen the relationship between Riverside County and Orange County by increasing the circulation of goods and people, and creating better travel conditions for work, recreation, school and commerce purposes. The plan calls for the addition of two toll lanes in each direction for the entirety of the road, with the addition of a 3+ lane for each direction at the toll collection point. The new lanes will provide congestion relief for more than 14 million drivers who use the 91 Express Lanes each year. One very beneficial aspect of these tolls is that they will generate revenue to finance maintenance, construction financing and  future operations.

In addition, reduced congestion will also decrease the time required for freeway traffic to move through local streets adjoining the SR-91. Improvements to on-and off-ramps will limit backups on local streets and freeways during peak travel periods. Tolled express lanes play a fundamental role in this project. The four proposed tolled express lanes (two in each direction) will have toll rates that vary by time of day, similar to the existing tolled express lanes in Orange County.
